Illnesses: Mental and Physical #BlogchatterA2Z

Having a mental illness is very different from having a physical one. It is nothing like a broken leg or having cancer. It is more terrifying to have your mind tell you horrible things.

The voice inside our head. The voice we have grown up with and one that we talk to almost all the time tells a mentally ill person terrible lies.

“You don’t matter to anyone.”
“You should kill yourself”
They’re all lying to you. Nobody cares.”

How do you manage to convince yourself that these statements are utter falsehoods?

A broken leg wouldn’t tell you to break it again. A cancerous tumour won’t ask you to smoke but an ill mind will force you to relapse. It will convince you that healing is a sham and sickness is the truth.

An ill mind is hard to treat. Let’s not spread misinformation by comparing it with a sick body.

Of course mental illness is not like physical illness and symptoms are not apparent so difficult to diagnose and treat.
